Birch Lake, Cass County (ID 11-0412-00)

Birch Lake is located in west central Cass County, in the city of Hackensack. The lake is 1,284 acres in size and reaches a maximum depth of 45 feet. The lake includes 755 acres of littoral zone, approximately 60% of the lake's total area. Birch Lake is one of the area's most desirable lakes to live on and homes on the lake have increased from 174 in 1974 to 233.

Birch Lake supports populations of walleye, northern pike, crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill and pumpkinseed sunfish. The lake is occasionally stocked with walleye, including 22,822 fingerling in 2001 and 1,110 fingerling and 12,867 yearling in 2002. A fish consumption advisory is in effect for Birch Lake and should be consulted before eating any fish from the lake.
