Blackwater Lake, Cass County (ID 11-0274)Blackwater Lake is located in central Cass County, approximately 10 miles east of the city of Hackensack. The lake is 722 acres in size, including 336 acres of littoral zone, or about 47% of the lake. Blackwater Lake reaches a maximum depth of 67 feet and supports populations of walleye, northern pike, crappie, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill and pumpkinseed sunfish. Walleye reproduce naturally in the lake, but the population is periodically increased through stocking. Recently 236 fingerling, 150 yearling, and 66 adults were stocked in 2000 and 51,660 fry were added in 2001. Blackwater Lake has good water quality parameters, with an average water clarity of 11.5 feet. At times, algae levels can decrease water quality and create minor aesthetic problems, but have little impact upon recreation activities on and around the lake.
