Stony Lake, Cass County (ID 11-0371-00)Stony Lake is located in central Cass County, approximately 1.5 miles northeast of the city of Hackensack. The lake is 595 acres in size, including 178 acres of littoral area, or about 30% of the lake's area. Stony Lake reaches a maximum depth of 50 feet. Stony Lake supports populations of walleye, northern pike, black crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill and pumpkinseed sunfish. Small bays around the lake with aquatic vegetation are important for northern pike spawning and reproduction and should be maintained. Residential development around Stony Lake has increased markedly. The number of homes on the lake rose from 63 in 1973 to 139 in 1999.
