Lower South Long Lake , Crow Wing County (ID 18-0136)Lower South Long Lake is located in southeastern Crow Wing County, southeast of the city of Brainerd. The lake is 1,313 acres in size and includes 461 acres of littoral zone. The lake supports populations of walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, green and pumpkinseed sunfish. Lower South Long Lake is occasionally stocked with walleye, including 3,450 fingerling and 685 yearling in 1998, 10,520 fingerling in 2000, and 5,964 yearling in 2002. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 47 feet and supports abundant aquatic plant growth to a depth of 10 feet. Although the water clarity is slightly below that of other lakes in the area, it supports a diverse aquatic plant community. At times, excessive algae growth can impair recreation and aesthetic activities upon the lake, but typically the lake remains unaffected.
