Platte Lake, Crow Wing County (ID 18-0088)Platte Lake is located in southeast Crow Wing County, near the city of Pine Center. The lake is 1,746 acres in size, nearly all of which is littoral zone, some 1,694 acres. Platte Lake reaches a depth of 23 feet at its deepest point. The lake occasionally winter kills due to a lack of dissoved oxygen in the water, with the last kill occuring during the winter of 1995-96. Despite infrequent winter kills, Platte Lake supports popultations of walleye, northern pike, crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill, green and pumpkinseed sunfish. The lake is occasionally stocked with walley, including 1,650,000 fry in 1997 and 500,000 in 2002. A fish consumption advisory is in place in Platte Lake and this should be consulted before consuming any fish from the lake. Platte Lake displays relatively good water quality parameters, averaging water transparency of more that five feet throughout most of the year. At times, decreasing water quality creates slight impairments to swimming and aesthetic enjoyment of the lake.
